  • About CRIS – Certified Residential Investment Specialist

My real estate career began in 1978, which at this point may seem like a hundred years ago!!

In those many years, I have encountered a large number of what I will call “Mom and Pop” investors.  I actually consider my husband and me to be one of those.  By definition, I would say a “Mom and Pop” investor does not own a single property worth five million dollars or more.  They likely have single family houses, small apartment units, and/or small office buildings.

I was fortunate many years ago to complete my CCIM – the commercial designation.  I did find, however, in my years of commercial/investment real estate, that most of my fellow commercial brokers preferred to work on the really large transactions, not those of the “Mom and Pop” investor.

Over the years I have developed a deep concern that the “Mom and Pop” investor needs and deserves the same quality advice, knowledge and service that the larger investor does.  However, I did not see a training venue to help agents obtain that knowledge.  The CCIM courses are excellent, but they are also very expensive and are more detailed than many agents really need.

Thus, the creation of the CRIS – Certified Residential Investment Specialist.  It is my hope that many residential agents will complete this training and as a result several things will happen.

    1)     Those agents will begin to invest for their own benefit.

    2)     Those agents will be able to better serve their existing residential clients and in a new way.

    a.      Many of those clients who have purchased homes may already be investors, and if not, they likely need to become investors.

    b.      The agent has already developed a great relationship with those clients.  How better to help them with their dreams and goals for the future!

    c.      The agent, by being able to give sound investment advice, will now definitely have a client for life, and hopefully many, many referrals to friends and family who need to same quality assistance.
